Splash Lake

Lake County, MinnesotaLimited DataMesotrophic

The LakeGrade rubric puts Splash Lake at a C: clarity at 7.5 ft, phosphorus readings still being added, and a TSI of 48 signal an intermediate trophic state. Sub-grades cluster within a single letter of each other, which usually means the lake is in stable trophic balance rather than fighting one specific stressor.

Mesotrophic conditions dominate at Splash Lake: enough nutrients for a healthy fishery, not so much that algal blooms become a chronic problem. A maximum depth of 18 ft puts Splash Lake in the middle of Minnesota's depth distribution. Splash Lake is small — 92 acres alongside 3.3 miles of shoreline — which makes it sensitive to even modest changes in watershed runoff or recreational pressure. Within Lake County's 142 graded lakes, Splash Lake ranks 102 — below the local median, though not at the bottom.

Splash Lake has no invasive species recorded in Minnesota state databases as of 2023, though prevention practices still apply at all access points. The fishery includes walleye alongside the lake's other 8 documented species — a notable draw for Minnesota anglers. The lake lacks a documented public access point, so visitor use is limited. Monitoring depth is thin here: the LakeGrade rubric is applied to a small number of sample years, and the grade will be revised as more data accumulates.
