How to read this map
US and Canadian pins are lakes with agency readings: phosphorus, nitrogen, chlorophyll-a, turbidity and Secchi clarity from the EPA Water Quality Portal and provincial monitoring, shown as reported. European pins are official Bathing Water Directive classifications for designated bathing waters; they measure bacteria, not nutrients or algae, and the two are never combined into one scale. Click a pin or a row to highlight it; Open goes to the lake page.
Prefer the simpler US & Canada view? Use the interactive lake map. Country hubs (Europe plus worldwide named-lake catalogs) live on the countries directory — that map pins countries, not individual lakes.

European sites use the EU Bathing Water Directive classes (Excellent, Good, Sufficient, Poor), a bacteria classification that is a different measurement from nutrient and algae readings.
Use the search box to match a lake name or a two-letter state / country code. EU class chips filter European bathing waters. Near me sorts the list by distance and flies to the closest site. The list can follow the current map view.
