Perry Lake

Crow Wing County, MinnesotaEutrophic

The LakeGrade rubric puts Perry Lake at a C: clarity at 3.6 ft, 57 µg/L of phosphorus, and a TSI of 61 signal an intermediate trophic state. Clarity, phosphorus, and chlorophyll-a all rate similarly, so there is no obvious single lever to pull on watershed management.

At a TSI of 61, Perry Lake reads as eutrophic — nutrient-rich enough that summer algal growth and reduced clarity are expected, not unusual. A maximum depth of 23 ft puts Perry Lake in the middle of Minnesota's depth distribution. The lake's 164 acres and 2.4 miles of shoreline put it in the mid-range bucket — large enough for varied use, small enough that watershed inputs reach the whole basin. Within the 120 graded lakes of Crow Wing County, Perry Lake sits at rank 115, near the bottom of the county list.

No invasive species are currently listed at Perry Lake — the lake remains off the Minnesota infested-waters roster. The fishery is bass-led, with 10 documented species across the lake's records. A documented public access point at Perry Lake makes the lake usable for shore fishing, paddle craft, and trailered boats. The grade is based on limited monitoring — fewer than three independent measurement years contribute, so future updates may shift the letter.

From the 2019-06-03 survey

After reports of a winterkill during the winter of 2018-19 a survey was conducted on Perry Lake to assess the fish community. Two standard gillnets, three standard trapnets, and two 3/8" trapnets were used. Northern pike had a gillnet CPUE of 5.0. Lengths ranged from 15.6"-24.0". Lakes in this part of the state have a…
