Camp Lake

Wright County, MinnesotaEutrophic

Camp Lake earns a C — middle-of-the-pack water quality, with one or two parameters dragging the average down from a stronger grade. The three sub-grades — clarity, phosphorus, and chlorophyll-a — track close together, so no single parameter is dragging the average.

At a TSI of 58, Camp Lake reads as eutrophic — nutrient-rich enough that summer algal growth and reduced clarity are expected, not unusual. The lake's 52 ft maximum depth is in the upper tier for Minnesota — deep enough for cold-water fish to find refuge in summer. Camp Lake covers 123 acres alongside 1.8 miles of shoreline — a mid-sized water that supports a working fishery without being so large that conditions diverge between basins. Camp Lake ranks 28 of 64 in Wright County — solidly in the upper half of the local distribution.

Eurasian watermilfoil has been documented at Camp Lake, requiring shoreline management to keep dense mats from crowding native vegetation. Walleye are documented at Camp Lake, one of 10 fish species on record for the lake. A documented public access point at Camp Lake makes the lake usable for shore fishing, paddle craft, and trailered boats. The grade is based on limited monitoring — fewer than three independent measurement years contribute, so future updates may shift the letter.

From the 2018-08-27 survey

Camp Lake is a 108 acre lake located southwest of Maple Lake in Wright County. There is a public access located on the northwest side of the lake. The lake has poor water quality and water clarity in August 2018 was three feet. Adequate dissolved oxygen was found to a depth of 12 feet during the week of the survey.…
