Finberg Lake
St. Louis County, MinnesotaLimited DataEutrophic
On the scoring rubric Finberg Lake grades a D: clarity at 6.0 ft and phosphorus readings still being added keep it in the lower bracket for St. Louis County.
At a TSI of 51, Finberg Lake reads as eutrophic — nutrient-rich enough that summer algal growth and reduced clarity are expected, not unusual. A maximum depth of 18 ft puts Finberg Lake in the middle of Minnesota's depth distribution. At 139 acres, Finberg Lake fits the Minnesota median for monitored lakes, with 2.8 miles of shoreline. Finberg Lake ranks 162 of 187 in St. Louis County — at the lower end of the locally monitored distribution.
Finberg Lake has no invasive species recorded in Minnesota state databases as of 2021, though prevention practices still apply at all access points. The state fisheries records do not list documented species for Finberg Lake, which usually reflects a lack of formal fisheries survey work rather than an empty lake. No formal public access is documented at Finberg Lake — most use is by shoreline residents and their guests. Monitoring depth is thin here: the LakeGrade rubric is applied to a small number of sample years, and the grade will be revised as more data accumulates.

THIS LAKE IS AT PRESENT SUPPORTING AN EXCELLENT POPULATION OF NORTHERN PIKE. BOTH NUMBERS AND WEIGHTS ARE ABOVE STATE AVERAGES. THE LARGE SIZE IS PROBABLY ATTRIBUTABLE TO LIGHT FISHING PRESSURE DUE TO A LIMITED ACCESS. THE PUBLIC HAS TO ENTER THE LAKE VIA A SHALLOW STREAM FROM HWY 73. THIS STREAM IS NAVIGABLE DURING…
