Eagle Lake

Wright County, MinnesotaLimited DataEutrophic

Eagle Lake earns a D — measurements through 2020 show persistent nutrient pressure that limits clarity through the summer. Clarity, phosphorus, and chlorophyll-a all rate similarly, so there is no obvious single lever to pull on watershed management.

At a TSI of 50, Eagle Lake reads as eutrophic — nutrient-rich enough that summer algal growth and reduced clarity are expected, not unusual. A maximum depth of 38 ft puts Eagle Lake in the middle of Minnesota's depth distribution. At 191 acres, Eagle Lake fits the Minnesota median for monitored lakes, with 2.6 miles of shoreline. Within Wright County's 64 graded lakes, Eagle Lake ranks 40 — below the local median, though not at the bottom.

No invasive species are currently listed at Eagle Lake — the lake remains off the Minnesota infested-waters roster. The fishery includes walleye alongside the lake's other 14 documented species — a notable draw for Minnesota anglers. A documented public access point at Eagle Lake makes the lake usable for shore fishing, paddle craft, and trailered boats. Ice-out has been recorded 7 times at Eagle Lake, with a median around Apr 10. Monitoring depth is thin here: the LakeGrade rubric is applied to a small number of sample years, and the grade will be revised as more data accumulates.

From the 2025-07-14 survey

A targeted survey of nearshore fish species in Eagle Lake, was conducted on July 11-14th, 2025, by Area Fisheries staff. Sampling sites were evenly spaced around the lake, and each was sampled by backpack electrofishing and seining with a 50-foot or 15-foot seine, where possible. Backpack electrofishing was completed…
