Johnson Lake
Becker County, MinnesotaMesotrophic
On the LakeGrade scale Johnson Lake grades a B, with clarity at 9.3 ft and 16 µg/L of phosphorus placing it above the Minnesota median. Secchi readings are the weakest of the three parameters, suggesting suspended sediment or algal biomass dominates the optical signal.
The lake sits in the mesotrophic zone — the band where most well-managed Minnesota lakes fall. The lake bottoms out at 30 ft — a moderate depth that supports a warm-water fishery without the year-round cold refuge a deeper basin provides. Johnson Lake covers 183 acres alongside 3.4 miles of shoreline — a mid-sized water that supports a working fishery without being so large that conditions diverge between basins. Within Becker County's 93 graded lakes, Johnson Lake ranks 49 — below the local median, though not at the bottom.
No invasive species are currently listed at Johnson Lake — the lake remains off the Minnesota infested-waters roster. The state fisheries records do not list documented species for Johnson Lake, which usually reflects a lack of formal fisheries survey work rather than an empty lake. The lake lacks a documented public access point, so visitor use is limited. The grade is based on limited monitoring — fewer than three independent measurement years contribute, so future updates may shift the letter.

From the 1984-07-23 survey
NORTHERN PIKE, YELLOW PERCH, AND YELLOW BULLHEAD POPULATIONS ARE ALL WELL-ABOVE STATE AND LOCAL MEDIAN NUMBERS. THE ONLY SPECIES TO SHOW A SIGNIFI CANT DECLINE IN TEST NET CATCH IS THE BLUEGILL- POSSIBLY DUE TO CHANGE IN SURVEY DATE FROM LATE JUNE TO LATE JULY.
