Loch Lomond Lake in Lake County is the clearest lake in Illinois by Secchi depth, at 16.5 ft. Secchi depth is measured by lowering a black-and-white disk until it disappears from view; a deeper reading means clearer water. Loch Lomond Lake has no nutrient or algae reading on record: the only measurement available is water clarity, which is not a water-quality indicator on its own — EPA's National Lakes Assessment does not grade clarity.
