Broken Bow Lake in McCurtain County is the clearest lake in Oklahoma by Secchi depth, at 8.5 ft. Secchi depth is measured by lowering a black-and-white disk until it disappears from view; a deeper reading means clearer water. Broken Bow Lake has no nutrient or algae reading on record: the only measurement available is water clarity, which is not a water-quality indicator on its own — EPA's National Lakes Assessment does not grade clarity.
