Spirit Falls
Spirit Falls is a snowmelt-fed waterfall roughly 40 to 60 feet high in the Umpqua National Forest's Layng Creek area, varying from a misty veil to a roaring wall depending on the season. A short trail built by a Boy Scout troop in the 1980s descends to its base.
Before you go
Waterfalls are hazardous by nature — wet rock, cold water, and unstable edges — and flow varies enormously with season and recent rain. Trail figures here describe the route as documented, not conditions today. Check US Forest Service (Umpqua National Forest) for closures and current conditions, and confirm land status before setting out.

The Spirit Falls Trail #1413 reaches it about 1.2 miles (out-and-back), rated easy. The nearest town is Cottage Grove. That describes the route as documented, not conditions on the day — check with US Forest Service (Umpqua National Forest) for closures and current conditions.
Spring. Waterfall flow swings enormously with snowmelt and recent rain, so a fall that roars in spring can be a trickle by late summer.
