Punch Bowl Falls

An iconic punchbowl-shaped waterfall where Eagle Creek drops about 33 feet through a narrow notch into a wide green pool in the Columbia River Gorge. The cliff-hugging Eagle Creek Trail leading to it is dramatic and not recommended for those uneasy with exposure.
Before you go
Waterfalls are hazardous by nature — wet rock, cold water, and unstable edges — and flow varies enormously with season and recent rain. Trail figures here describe the route as documented, not conditions today. Check Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area (USFS) for closures and current conditions, and confirm land status before setting out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Punch Bowl Falls drops about 33 feet. That makes it the 517th-tallest documented waterfall in this inventory, taller than roughly 24% of the falls listed here. Height comes from published land-manager and survey records, not from our own measurement.
The Eagle Creek Trail #440 reaches it about 4.2 miles (out-and-back) with roughly 600 feet of elevation gain, rated moderate. The nearest town is Cascade Locks. That describes the route as documented, not conditions on the day — check with Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area (USFS) for closures and current conditions.
Spring through fall; Northwest Forest Pass required. Waterfall flow swings enormously with snowmelt and recent rain, so a fall that roars in spring can be a trickle by late summer.
