Mooney Falls
Mooney Falls is the tallest waterfall in Havasu Canyon, dropping roughly 200 feet from a travertine cliff into a pool on Havasu Creek, nearly twice the height of nearby Havasu Falls. Reaching its base requires a strenuous 20-mile round-trip backpacking trek plus a descent through tunnels and down chains and ladders bolted into the cliff.
Before you go
Waterfalls are hazardous by nature — wet rock, cold water, and unstable edges — and flow varies enormously with season and recent rain. Trail figures here describe the route as documented, not conditions today. Check Havasupai Tribe (within Grand Canyon) for closures and current conditions, and confirm land status before setting out.

Frequently Asked Questions
Mooney Falls drops about 200 feet. That makes it the 83rd-tallest documented waterfall in this inventory, taller than roughly 89% of the falls listed here. Height comes from published land-manager and survey records, not from our own measurement.
The Havasupai Trail (Hualapai Hilltop to Mooney Falls) reaches it about 20.4 miles (out-and-back) with roughly 2,500 feet of elevation gain, rated strenuous. The nearest town is Supai. That describes the route as documented, not conditions on the day — check with Havasupai Tribe (within Grand Canyon) for closures and current conditions.
Spring and fall. Waterfall flow swings enormously with snowmelt and recent rain, so a fall that roars in spring can be a trickle by late summer.
