Pennsylvania Wakesurfing Rules
What the rule says
Pennsylvania regulates wake surfing statewide through the Fish and Boat Commission's boat-towed watersports rules: wake surfing is allowed only behind boats whose propulsion system is manufacturer-designed for it (historically inboard configurations), riders must wear a non-inflatable USCG-approved life jacket, and boats engaged in wake surfing are limited to slow/no-wake speed within 200 feet of shore, docks, ramps, swimmers and other water users. It is a statewide framework that expressly addresses wake surfing; no depth or acreage thresholds.

Individual lakes routinely add stricter limits on top of the state rule — no-wake zones, time-of-day windows, horsepower caps, and wider shoreline setbacks are all set locally by counties, lake districts, and land managers. Check the local authority for the specific water before launching.
